Before heading out to a BBQ party, I thought I share some of my favourite summer hits of 2013 with you because there is no party without good tunes. But sometimes that party-mood just dosen't seem to happen by itself and then you come with a kick-ass playlist to start or save the night.
The Summer Set - Boomerang
I wasn't a fan of TSS until seeing them live recently. There, they've blown my mind and proved that they've got potential - especially in creating great party vibes with summerly tunes such as 'Boomerang'.
Passion Pit - Carried Away
Passion Pit might be one of my favourite discoveries this year and I can't get this song, along with it's funny video, out of my head...Constant radio play can be blamed for it as well.
New Politics - Harlem
When first hearing about `Harlem`, I thought it was some cover for that dumb Harlem Shake thing. Fortunately, it wasn`t and I`m still loving it.
Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams - Get Lucky
Honestly, I couldn`t be bothered with Daft Punk before but this song is everywhere this summer so it was only matter of time until I got into it just as everybody else and the rest is history. Although, it would be nice to move on to listening something else now.
Empire Of The Sun - Alive
I`ve been waiting for Empire Of The Sun to come back for a while now. They are pretty much alive and better than ever this year.
Paramore - Still Into You
If there is a song that makes me dance every time I hear it, than it`s definitely `Still Into You` by Paramore. So catchy and cheerful, just as a summer party should be. I would also advice putting on the short Interludes of the band`s new album on a Hawaii themed party - or any other ukulele based song.
The Carbonfools - Opened Doors
Not the typical must-dance-to song but it`s quite a big hit here in Hungary, where I`m spending my summer and The Carbonfools make some good tunes anyway.
Irie Maffia - Fever In Her Eyes
Another Hungarian act but different style. Irie Maffia are mostly known for their signature reagge style music but with this new hit they`ve tried out different things and I have to say they`re doing it pretty well.
Mumford and Sons - Babel
Despite M&S is British (and I`m not talking about the store chain here), their music makes me think of hot summer evenings spent in the US countryside, jamming around the fire with friends while burning marshmallows and drinking beer. Simple way of having fun but 100% summerly.
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Seriously, having a playlist without Vampire Weekend is a no go this summer. Their new album is amazing and although the band is better when live, it still sounds great from the speakers.
Ellie Goulding - Burn
This song by Ellie isn`t my favourite but it screams summer and sure I won`t be able to forget it after a few more listen. If you love dance and pop kind of music, this one`s gonna be your favourite.
Kids In Glass Houses - Drive
One of Britain`s most underrated band definitely deserves more attention so give them a few spin at your party. You and your mates won`t be disappionted as this song even has a gang-vocal in it and what`s better than singing and dancing to that part together with your buddies?
The 1975 - Sex
Cool people listen to cool band`s cool music. That`s all you need to know.
Jimmy Eat World - I Will Steal You Back
Jimmy Eat World released a fantastic new album this year so this one is a must at a punk-rock lover`s party...or any party.
Fall Out Boy - Young Volcanoes
Excuse me while I`m sipping my coctail and dancing, perhaps in my grass skirt (I do not own one), to this on a sandy Hawaiian beach while FOB are saving rock and roll.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Ray Dalton - Can`t Hold Us
If the songs above weren`t working, then this last one will. I don`t really get the hype around this duo but 'Can`t Hold Us' became a huge hit since it`s release - just as `Thrift Shop` did earlier - and I have to say, I like this one better. Plus the music video looks sick!
So these were my favourites this year. I`ve tried to put together various styles and nations but I`d like to hear about your favourites now.
